DESIGN CENTER, TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION

Based on the concept, ¡°Freedom of mobility for all people,¡± Toyota is aiming to support a
pleasant and wonderful life for all people, including the disabled and elderly, through
*Welcab. For example, the ¡°motor-powered wheelchair storage device¡± is one product of
Welcab. With this device, the user can place their wheelchair on the roof using a remote
control. The operation of storing a wheelchair has been upgraded by pursuing a
universal design anyone can use easily with peace of mind. The design of the storage box
also considers spatial characteristics and secures a storage space for a wheelchair and
other devices. It also pursues harmony with the design of the vehicle it is installed in, and
thus has a stylish design that includes functionality and aesthetic design.
This device is the third generation device. It was first applied in Japan to the Prius (Toyota
Motor Corporation) and is now also being applied to the Ractis (Toyota Motor
Corporation).

*Welcab: Welfare vehicles of Toyota. The word is derived from the word ¡°welfare,¡± ¡°well,¡±
¡°welcome¡± and ¡°cabin.¡± The name means wanting to aid customers in a small way so
they can live a happier life.
